mish, I saw the story, but it sounds like total rumor at this time. Some witnesses say yes and others say no. If we get a picture like the one of the Saigon Chief of Police blowing the suspected VC's head off on the streets of Vietnam, it would look bad for this new "democracy." But, whether it's true or not, it looks very much like Allawi is simply another Saddam we think we can control for awhile.

I'm sure the other ME nations have a real hoot when they hear Dubya claim he wants to bring democracy to the region. Lord knows we were so successful doing just that in The Dominican Republic (Trujillo), Cuba (Batista),
Chile (Pinochet), South Vietnam (Diem, Ky and then Thieu), ad infinitum. "We're bringing you democracy" is American for "We're gonna make you our economic and political slaves." <G>
