FFR The department of energy through its national renewable energy laboratory (the NREL gave KK his first 200k research grant) formed a pyrolysis materials research consortium in 1991 to replace petroleum derived raw materials used in PF resins with biochemicals. This consortium consisted of Interchem Industries, Aristech Chemical, Georgia-Pacific and Allied Signal(the proud new parent of Preston products). The consortium concluded its activities in 1995, the reason is not stated. However Quote "The 1991 to 1995 research provided a proof of concept period, during which it was shown that fast pyrolysis could provide a cost-effective source of phenolic compounds for the manufacture of phenolic resin." None of the above stated companies are curently working with the DOE, that I have any knowledge of but the NREL is in a project with Enysn USA, (Enysn converts biomass into fuels).
