Maria Shriver Headed to Dem Convention

Arnold Schwarzenegger will be a prime-time speaker at the Republican National Convention, but that won't stop his wife from attending the Democratic soiree.

"She is going back for family-related activities, ceremonies that honor the legacies of her family members," according to her spokeswoman Terri Carbaugh.

Carbaugh told the Los Angeles Times that Mrs. Schwarzenegger plans to visit with her Kennedy family kin and watch her Uncle Teddy's speech at the Democrats' Boston convention.

She said that Shriver will participate in a dedication of the Rose Kennedy Greenway, a downtown park named for her grandmother, on July 26, the first day of the convention.

Her uncle Teddy will address the delegates July 27, and Shriver will attend the speech and a gala tribute to the senior senator from Massachusetts later in the evening.

Having his Democratic wife go back to her political roots doesn't bother Gov. Schwarzenegger at all, Carbaugh said.

"Most certainly there would be no trepidation about [Shriver] attending a family event," Carbaugh said.

"Families don't break on partisan lines. The governor is very supportive of Maria and her extended family. Family is about strong bonds of love."
