That is why Fujitsu is going to make sparcs from now on. Scott will try to fend off Solaris on "Industry Standard Architecture" for as long as possible to milk what is left of the hardware profits. He knows he will have to eventually beat mircosoft at dot net. Can he? I don't think so, but I have been wrong before. In the meantime he is going to try to make Opterons his dumb terminals for his sun servers. As you point out, this wont work because the bottom line is the same. No one is dumb enough to get locked into a propietary software/hardware scheme. It didn't work for IBM's Microchannel, it won't work for Scott.
