lorne, when I look at the succes of the elections in the largest democracy, which is India, I wonder what it takes for democracy to be successful. The Indian electorate is no doubt poor and illiterate. But when they went to vote they took into consideration issues which are primarily economic in nature such as distribution of wealth. The incumbent party went and campaigned on their record on economic upliftment. The opposing party took their message of economic justice. And they threw out the window issues that Bush is trying to raise such as gay marriage, liberal vs. conservative etc. And lastly, their entire voting was electronic and was a total success.

Now come to the US. We have already had the President's brother come and admit that their records in Florida are highly suspect. The election in Florida were rigged in 2000 and we all Americans (not just Democrats) are highly suspect of the integrity of the voting in Florida this time around. Kind of seems strange that it should happen in a State where the President's brother is Governor. These are kinds of things you hear happening only in Third World countries. Anyway rather than dwell on it, I think there are people already making sure it does not happen again. I as an American find it strange that there even exists a possibility of it happening again.
