Question please. I have often heard it said that 80% of options expire worthless. If that is true why would anyone ever buy options?? In general that is. I know there are situations and reasons but in general shouldn't they be sold??

John

PS, if 80% of options purchased expire worthless and assuming that people buy options for a trend they believe is in effect then this must be a round about way of saying that 80% of trend traders lose. It is also interesting that they say stocks trend only 20% of the time. Funny how the numbers come together.
