George - I'd thought about the politics stanza myself. My reasons are
(1) it thuds for me when read aloud and (2) reality, love, and the future
fit together in a way that leaves politics sticking out awkwardly. I wouldn't
mind hearing your reason for thinking it should be dropped. It's interesting
to me that, even if your reason is different, someone reading the poem had a
problem with the same verse. It's true that there is usually a bit of
something in a poem that can be improved. At least for me, it can be
difficult to figure out how to make the improvement or even put my finger
on exactly what the problem is.
