Wilson probably should stay out of it, as well. Maybe should have stayed out of it from the get-go. Arguing that "Valerie did not have the authority to assign me" is pretty lame, at best, and scummy, is the way I look at it, when the actual allegation is "Valerie offered up Joe's name as a suggestion."

We're all smart enough to know the difference. A child is smart enough to know the difference.

He's hung this albatross around his own neck. This is EXACTLY why the CIA blew her cover to the White House, and someone at the White House blew it to Safire, not "vindictiveness".

How do I know this? Occam's Razor. Why would anybody sane pick Joe Wilson for the task he was assigned to? Well, his wife, a hithertofore respected expert in Iraqi WMD suggested that he would be a good choice. Better women than her have let their judgment be clouded by their men, and he was just knocking around the house, wishing he had something to do.

In retrospect, big mistake.

She's stuck defending him, he's stuck defending her, they're MARRIED, for Chrissake. And he got a book out of it. Personally, in a saner place than Washington he'd be finished, but when the Democrats ever get back in power, he's in line for a retread. Look at all the retreads working for Dubya.
