I hardly think either campaign is doing a "nuanced and serious debate on the issues." In the US in this time it's not in the cards. We certainly don't do politics that way.

If you think the kind of negative campaign the Bush folk have run against Kerry and Edwards contributes to "a nuanced and serious debate on the issues", I've got the proverbial bridge in Brooklyn for you.
