Cobalt, I stated that I wouldn't "spend one American life to have those troops on those borders to try to stop the movement of Al Queda between Iran and Afghanistan/Iraq." My point was that when you'd earlier attempted to justify the invasion of Iraq on a "border guarding" rationale, you failed to consider that the troop's efforts are futile; the borders are extensive and have never been secure from smugglers of goods or people.

You replied with a post recounting the sacrifices of American soldiers and others in instances where there was no choice or where the sacrifice resulted in a benefit to society. Your bottom line was; Yes, sacrifices are no fun at all. That's why they're called "sacrifices."

Now I realize that got you three "attagirls" from my fan club, but instead of platitudes and generalities maybe you'd like to finish explaining why you would try to justify the Iraqi invasion and occupation as useful on the basis that we have "troops guarding the Iranian borders?"

Or maybe you could just admit it was a red herring and let it go?

Or is that too much to expect?
