There is a certain sense to random searches rather than profiling. If a terrorist wanted to smuggle something onboard and he suspected he'd be searched he wouldn't ideally take it himself, he would place it with a less suspicious person (perhaps without their knowledge) he brought along with him. For example some years ago a Palestinian placed a bomb with his Irish girlfriend's (pregnant with his child BTW) luggage before an El Al flight she was taking without him. Luckily they found it before she boarded.

I expect their relationship needed counseling after that (G)
