Bush Back In First In Arkansas

George W. Bush has regained the lead in the state of Arkansas, according to a poll by Zogby Interactive published in the Wall Street Journal Online. 46.7 per cent of respondents would vote for the Republican incumbent in the 2004 United States presidential election, while 44.5 per cent would support prospective Democratic nominee John Kerry.

Independent candidate Ralph Nader garners the support of 4.4 per cent of respondents. The election is scheduled for Nov. 2.

Support for Bush increased by two per cent since June, while backing for Kerry dropped by 2.3 per cent

Jimmy Carter in 1976—and former governor Bill Clinton in 1992 and 1996—are the only Democrats to carry Arkansas in a presidential election since 1968. Bush won the state’s six electoral votes in 2000, with 51.3 per cent of all cast ballots.
