I've got my own ideas about the nature of evil and how it fits into the whole fabric of life. But to deny the existence of evil is to take a rather bold step in faith, especially when you consider all of the real horrors that have happened throughout history, including in the last 100 years.

I don't see that denying the existence of the devil is the same as denying the existence of evil. Evil exists because we exist and we have choices. IMO we don't need a special persona or archetype to make it happen.
