| Dear Sir: Your son died, but it was worth it. No, none of the weapons we warned America about were found in Iraq. And we found no working relationships with al Qaida, and we found no active WMD programs, but we have good news. We saw some trucks on a highway and some of the same brilliant people who made money off of telling us wild stories that turned out to be completely false say that maybe, just maybe, something was in one of those trucks -- although of course there is no evidence of this whatsoever. So, in the end, rest assured that we were right all along about those WMDs that we now have a pretty good idea must have been in those trucks (the alternative view, which is of course supported by all the evidence, is that there were no WMD, but we never accept anything that does not confirm what we already "know" to be true). In case this does not satisfy you that the death of your loved one was not in vain, we have replaced one murderous thug with a murderous thug more to our liking, and although it now appears that we have killed more Iraqis than we found in the mass graves we like to talk about, do not worry because George Bush is satisfied -- and if George Bush is satisfied that it was worth the life of your loved one, that is all that really counts in the long run. Just be thankful that George feels good about it. |
