Hi Christine,
I don't know if my ponytail is cute. I am the only one who can't see it!
When I was in Austin, we did some research with mice and rabbits, but we always tried to treat them humanely. We were mainly giving them doses of methionine and methionine-derived antibiotic, and got some very good results. Some died from an overdose of antibiotic. With any new drug, it is necessary to find out the lethal dose in order to find out what a safe dose is.
I saw the antibiotic cure distemper in two dogs. Ask any vet what the outcome of distemper is and they will tell you it is always fatal. It is a virus. There are very few antivirals. We have yet to get a major drug company to take the research further. We once had a deal with one, but they were bought out, and the newly formed company scrapped the research agreement with us.
My cat "bullseye" and I were watching "fangs" on Discovery tonight. He really gets into the programs that show small mammals and birds. He watched about 30 minutes before dozing off during a commercial.
I am still puzzled by the seagull that showed up on our front lawn 2 years ago, and came almost every day about 4:30, for about 30 days. He would stay from 10 minutes to an hour, and was not interested in being fed. One time he walked up to me sitting in my chair, walked across my shoes, and stood next to me for about 10 minutes, watching traffic and other birds go by. One day he flew off in a different direction, and never returned. I guess he didn't like hanging out with "normal" gulls, kind of like me.
