"Because they're too liberal." I then asked him about his positions on a bunch of issues: other than violent crime and flag burning, he was very liberal. Against tax cuts, for gay marriage, pro-choice, against prayer in schools, for universalized healthcare... I had to break the news to him that he was more liberal than something like 2/3 of Dems. He was bummed. Turns out, his only real model for conservatism vs. liberalism was Rudy Giuliani vs. David Dinkins. Go figure. -Z
