Amy, RE: I think large companies should create a new type of dividend - a stock option - for the long-term holders. Some of the WS crowd deserves none of those due to their short-term momo nature - I think short-term investors and long-term investors could use more of a distinction - why not use options as a way to do so. A little bit more interesting than a cash or share dividend.

What you're describing there is a "right", and a lot of smaller companies use that as a capital-raising strategy. My best performing long position last year used that strategy and it was highly rewarding for both the company and the shareholders. This really isn't much of an option for larger companies for a variety of reasons.
