as of 22 Jul 2004 at 11:56:34 AM GMT the outstanding national debt is at:
$ 7 , 2 8 3 , 7 9 6 , 5 3 8 , 9 3 8 . 1 4
The estimated population of the United States is 293,792,813
so each citizen's share of this debt is $24,792.29.

Well, about a week has passed by. The debt climbed another $13,322,533,327.58.

I've (rather casually) been keeping track of the amount of each individual's share of the debt for the past few days.

About 4 days ago, it stood at $24,770.79 -- so the individual's share of the debt has increased by approximately $21.50. Make that times a family of 4, and that's an increase of about $86.00 in 4 days?

Kinda nuts, don't you think?
How the crap will that ever be even partially paid down?
If a family got themselves into the hole this fast on their own, they'd probably lose their credit and be on the run from baseball-bat-toting collection dudes. <g/ng>
