Kerry never knew his grandfather who came to the US in the early 1900's, changed his name and converted to Catholicism. His grandfather remained a mystery to John except he knew he had killed himself in the Copley Hotel bathroom. Apparently he kept the name and religion change a secret. John is also Scottish and Irish.
