Pam, LEXR may be attractive to Samsung...

...if Samsung wishes to pursue a product line parallel to SanDisk and pay for SD-based
patents. Recall that many of the cellphone formats are based on the basic guts of the
SD controller, not other formats. The exception, of course, is MMC. Samsung may do
better by pursuing embedded flash since they already produce a line of cellphones.

Lexar's controller technology has been superceded by SanDisk as the newer flash
chips apparently facilitate read and write functions. SanDisk may become the preferred
brand of professionals. If you look in many of the Nikon digital SLR reviews you will see
that SanDisk is eroding Lexar's position in that market with the Ultra II and Extreme lines.
What does that leave Lexar with? At this stage they can only compete on price. SanDisk has
taken the performance lead away. Beyond the professional digital camera market the only thing
that really matters is price and market reach.

LEXR has rough water ahead.
