"...he can't tell her what songs to sing..."

How many ways do you think you can get this wrong. If he is paying her to sing on his stage, he can hire her to sing songs from only the 50's or 60's if he wants to. And he can tell her not to sing songs of the 80's and 90's.

What is it about paying someone to perform according to a certain program that you don't get?

"...and to throw her out of the hotel and not even let her back to her room is the obvious over reaction of a person ."

She wasn't paying for the room. It wasn't HER room it was a motel room. She was there on a very temporary basis (while she was being paid to perform on HIS stage) as his guest and for whatever time period he determines. She reported that she had already left, so there doesn't appear to be an issue over this anyway. His reaction, whether over, under, or spot on, is only a matter of opinion, and obviously HIS is the one that counted NOT YOURS.

Linda will benefit from the publicity way more than what was lost for the gig, if anything. The motel might also, who knows. But, it wasn't an issue of free speech. Don't know why you can't see that...
