Took my conservative girlfriend to 9/11 last night.

She's not your typical conservative. Vegetarian, animal rights person. But she insists on flag waving, and national anthem singing, and 'supporting the troops'. That kind of thing. She accused me of hating Bush which I acknowledged I do. She said she didn't hate Bush. She refused to pay for this movie, even though we usually go out Dutch at her insistence. I found free tickets. Free tickets are easy to find for this movie. Moore doesn't need the money. He doesn't care about it other than it helps him finance more movies. He doesn't care about caviar and cigars like the Bush People.

Before we went her attitude towards Moore was typical of inculcated conservatives:

"Moore hates America!" she would say, sometimes she even said that about me.

She was grumbling and commenting at first, during the segment about the Florida election swindle. But soon she quieted down.

During Moore's segment where he read the Patriot act to congress she was laughing. During the segments showing what the news didn't show about Iraq she was silent. She really hadn't known vicerally how incredible the violence of our weapons are. How enormous the explosions are. She bought into Rumsfelt's "pinpoint surgical accuracy" but I think she is getting an idea now that things are not quite as clean as she was led to believe.

After the movie she was very silent for a long time. I didn't want to rub it in so I let her think. Finally eventually she told me that the stuff about Halliburton, and Enron, and the Saudis was very disturbing. She didn't really understand the kind of money that is involved here. She knew it was a lot, but watching Rumsfelt and the others shaking hands with Saddam and the rest of the dictators in their golden palaces and 6 star hotels changed her.

She knew about the fanatic terrorist beheadings but although I'd told her about the Saudi Dictatorship beheadings it didn't register. It does now.

As did the people who are no longer gung ho about this war who talked about their experiences in the war.

And of course when you see concentrated clips of the Bush Administration Lying, one lie after another after another after another. Conflicting statements depending on what they want you to believe. Eventually she realized how massive the lies of this administration have been. How everything they say is suspect now. How everything revolves around corporate money and nothing revolves around average working people.

This morning she emailed me thanking me for taking her. She's still digesting it. It's not easy to consider that what you knew may have not been the truth, the whole truth.

She's a fine woman with a short memory. But when she sees the truth she always makes an intelligent decision. Unfortunately like most conservatives it's hard to get her to actually spend time investigating truth from sources other than the Fox network etc. She see's snippets and then it melts from her memory. This movie puts them all together so they are hard to forget or ignore.

This isn't the first time. I got her to look at the role of the United Fruit Company in Central America and she was appalled by the actions of previous administrations too.

But now she's seen the truth twice and it's causing her to reevaluate what she knows. Now she's seen what a cowardly job the TV news networks have done. How they caved into caviar and booze and money. FINALLY she's thinking. She's starting to see past the conservative propaganda.

This is what the movie is all about. Looking at facts you don't see on Fox. Facts you'd have to dig out normally. If I can get a few more fence sitters to see this movie and you can get a few more fence sitters to see this movie Bush and his crooked friends are toast.
