I told my Mom and everyone who would listen to me years before 9/11 this:

"The surprise is not that we haven't had a giant terrorist incident in the US, the surprise is that we HAVEN'T had giant bombs go off. Sooner or later it's going to happen."

On 9/11 my Mom called and woke me up with: "they did it Doren. They did what you said they would."

Like everyone else I was appalled. UNLIKE everyone else I was not surprised. Unlike the ignorant I knew why we were bombed. I knew it was not "out of the blue". I knew it was not because they "are jealous".

I also said, like the present commission, that neither Bush nor Clinton could have stopped 9/11. There is too much information out there. Too many plots, Too many suspects. Too much bunk information. There is no way they can respond to everything they hear.

Now I'll tell you. The terrorists will get through again. There will be another big one. And another after that. We may stop some but we won't stop all of them. And every day we are encouraging more kids to become terrorists.

We can only stop them by changing our policies. By supporting moderates instead of dictators. That will take some sacrifice. No more SUVs unless you really need them. No more extravagance. We are not ready for these kinds of sacrifices. We cannot yet sacrifice our SUVs for normal cars or fuel mileage. We are not ready to invest in Solar instead of cruise missiles yet. We have not had enough soldiers killed yet to change.

I just wonder when we will be ready.

How many people will have to die before we learn that Giant cars and Monster houses and lavish extravagances for the rulers are not what America is about?

When will we learn that pegging our economy to short term limited oil resources is stupid, instead of investing in the long term future of Solar which could make us secure and even rich?
