I came across a small article in the Aug 18 edition of ComputerWorld about Y2K and the DOD. Basically, the GAO was severly criticizing the DOD for their Y2K readinesss. At issue was the computer system the DOD uses to keep track of all the computer systems in the military. The GAO was saying that the DOD does not even know how many computer systems they have that may be subject to Y2K problems - i.e., before you fix them you got to find them.

This may not effect TPRO directly as I have to believe, at least on the military hardware side, the folks that built the weapons will have to make sure they work in 2000. But it will take a lot of resources to do the job that may not be available for other non-military jobs and certainly adds to the overall interest in the area.

OTH, I don't even want to think about what might happen if smart bombs, cruise missles, F-16's, etc., start having computer problems.

Finally, on another somewhat related subject, do y'all remember that problem with the baggage handling system that caused the delay in the opening of the new Denver Airport. In this same issue of ComputerWorld it stated that the problems were 'software' and that it delayed the opening by 16 months. Wanna bet that the system is Y2K complaint?
