My Dad was recalled to the Bureau of Yard & Docks during the Korean bit; I was 3-to-5. I went to Knob Hill Preschool with a bunch of real nice kids from the apartment area we lived in in Falls Church. We's all sang songs on the bus each way, big stuff when you're that size - and we were away from home for "..almost a whole day.."!!! I have one vivid memory of KHP. We all got warned NOT to jump over the little creek that ran through the yard during recess. My Graham Crackers and naptime blanket-buddy Russ ended up butt-first in the middle of the creek one day. And, he had to sit on the root of a big oak tree in his skivvies while his shorts and shirt dried out. You could feel the heat from his blush/digust at 10 paces...... Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha................

Noni Hayungs and her husband lived upstairs from us. Noni had carrot-orange hair like Lucielle Ball, and she would make me "..Tomato Soup (..made with milk..) & Boats" (..crumbled up Saltines..), and toasted cheese 'sammidges'.

When I got sore throats (..before I had my tonsils out..), the Dr. in DC prescribed Ginger Ale, aspirin, and bed rest - I always liked that guy and have been hooked on Canada Dry Ginger Ale ever since. Canada Dry Ginger Ale always used to cost $0.05 more per quart bottle than any other pop, so I was happier than a clam in sand...!!!

I also climbed the stairs to the top of the Washington Monument several times. Once with my GrandPa, and we looked out the tiny windows at the Capitol, etc. You can't do that anymore.

I also remember paddle-boating with my folks on the Potomac when the cherry tres were in bloom.

Now, the place is usually a zoo. But, the Voyager, that I helped pay for, hangs in the lobby of the Air & Space Museum, and I still get a buzz out of seeing that and all the other interesting stuff along the mall.

John :-)
