Have you read any of Vince Flynn's thrillers?

Never heard of him. I'll check it out. I tend to prefer murder mysteries and sci-fi.

What 'tude??? How could the President of the US been any more clear?

Bush is certainly known for his clarity. (In prepared speeches, at least. <g>) I don't know that clarity is germane to my point. Unless you look at it from the perspective that his clarity stems from the simplistic, in which case I can see the tie in.

The 'tude I referenced has been discussed to death. You remember. The swagger, the smirk, the cock-sure self righteousness, the resistance to nuance, the unwillingness to reach out and draw others into the tent. That's what I meant. The nuance thing alone is enough to drive non-absolutists away.

Atleast 50% of the country understand the terrible situation we are in, and why. Hopefully, the other 50% will put some effort to understanding soon, before its' too late

This sentence is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. It basically says "we get it and they don't, the poor fools, and I pray a miracle happens and they wake up." How would you like to be on the receiving end of that? Would you be persuaded that you're an idiot and you should mend your ways? Would you feel welcomed and included? LOL. With statements like that you couldn't be more effective in driving the unpersuaded away if you set out to do just that.

The unpersuaded, not the moonbats but the simply unpersuaded, way back when, before this turned into nothing more than a partisan food fight, argued caution, argued complexity, argued that rushing in with swords raised and no other tools in the toolbox could open up Pandora's box without the means to close it. They were at best ignored, at worst treated as unpatriotic or junior moonbats.

So here we are. We've reached the point where we don't have the wherewithal to keep on invading country after country and we need other tools but the people who are adept at complexity and have the other tools are outside the tent, off the reservation. They were driven away. Great move.
