my father is another such WW2 veteran
whose buddies are dying rapidly

but Dad clings loosely to the BushyMan he voted for

at best, he wont show up to vote for Bushy, the Idiot Prince
not this time around
he favors Kerry over Bushy on war record performance
he sympathizes with Teresa Heinz Kerry
he liked deceased Sen Kerry

I ask about his belief and loyalty
it is shrouded in patriotism more than anything else
he feels challenged by the horror of the World Trade Center attack
he talks about Normandy and D-Day and relates to Iraq
I tell him of no connection
I remind him of Bushy's shattering of his cherished NATO
but he thinks Europe has changed, esp Germany and France
he is no anti-Europe guy though
he loves France and Italy
no, he worships Italy and utters Henry James quotes like
"I will always love England, but my true romance is with Italy"

he lacks answers, and therefore trusts Bushy somehow
he does say this in reply to my claims of his idiot status

"Bush may not be smart, but he is not the dumbest president in a century... that distinction goes to Millard Fillmore... Dubya might be second dumbest"

if he votes for Kerry, he will surely NOT TELL ME
what totally confuses me is his migration from lifelong Democrat to Republican now
when asked why, he makes vague comments about Clinton's total absence of morality

whether Democrats like to admit it or not, Clinton did untold serious damage to the Dem party !!!
