The trip was great. We did lots of snorkeling and I flew over the crater of kilauea........it was quite a sight to see from the air.

Molokai was great. The island is very undeveloped and the locals want to keep it that way. I don't think they even know who's President..........they don't care about anything. We were in one of the few restaurants on the island when a local showed up with his ukelele and sang some Hawaiian songs.

There are only two hotels and a few condos available on Molokai so you need to have reservations well in advance if you aren't into camping. The island is about 50 to 75 years behind all the others....not congested and kickback.

The mule ride down the cliff was spectacular in many ways. The view was fabulous ( when you dared to look ). The mules know exactly what to do so you pretty much just let them walk down without direction. The only thing you have to do is keep them from eating grass and shrubs. My mule got mad at me and tried to rub my legs against the rocks as we went down..........when he wasn't successful he went into some side bushes and got me scratched a bit on my leg..........he was a kick ( little pun there).

THe guys that run the mule ride were funny...................they joked about not losing anyone for a couple weeks and said they got rid of all the suicidal mules last week!!

SOme of the mules walk right up to the edge so you just have to trust that they know what they are doing. They are well trained...............my mule was trying to pass the mule ahead of us but he would stop when he was a head astride him...........he knows he is supposed to go single file. He was trying to pass on the outside ( cliffside ) so it was a bit scary at times. He never even stumbled tho..........thankfully.

Kualapapa has the best scenery around............the sea cliffs are spectacular. There are about 36 cured lepers left living on the site and they can live there until they die. After they are all dead it may turn into a national park or be sold for a golf course. If it turns into a golf course it will rival the best in the world due to it's beauty. The Hanson's disease survivors deserve to live there as they were put through hell in the early days before the disease was understood.

On Maui we traveled to Hana, the seven pools and drove the forbidden back way home from Hana. It wasn't bad at all and I had no trouble. I had rented a Chrysler Magnum wagon and I just went slow and gave any oncoming cars plenty of room to go by me. I generally just stopped when I saw an oncoming car and it worked well cause the road was narrow.

We also drove up Haleakala and got some pictures of that dormant volcano..........it was beautiful.
