MSNBC just had a one-hour special on about JFKerry and his anti-war activism. The special examined Kerry's activities post-Vietnam, and the response to those activities.
Focuses were Kerry's activities on behalf of VVAW, the medal incident, John O'Neil's response to Kerry, and the response from the Nixon White House.
It's safe to say, Nixon's people targeted Kerry as someone to be counted as an enemy and, if possible, discredited.
What was interesting were Chuck Colson's remarks about Kerry in memos to Nixon. Colson essentially concluded then that Kerry had no specific ideology, and was merely an opportunist, using the Vietnam situation for political purposes. Even then, people noted that Kerry had been in country only 4 months. O'Neil, otoh, was there for 18 months.
History has proven Colson right, IMO. |
