I don't buy this story.

I would assume that as a subversive organization that protects its security as best it can, AQ is divided up into cells, thus making it very difficult for the mid-level operatives to know who the others are.

Plus, the terrorist threat no longer exclusively arises from AQ. There are lots of affiliated groups that we don't know a thing about, i.e., the group that did the Madrid train bombings. This is a real threat, though it is doubtful that these smaller groups can engage in the kind of massive terror that AQ can.

It's nice bit of disinformation, though. Make the bastards nervous.
