"Expansionism" is not intrinsic to Christianity, particularly to fundamentalism. Rome was expansionist before it was Christian; the Crusades were in aid of the Byzantine Empire, that is, mainly defensive; and the British Empire had little to do with Christianity---- there were hardly any efforts to evangelize the Indian subcontinent, for example.
