....expressed the hope that Saddam would be overthrown by a rebellion or a coup.

A rebellion or a coup produces very different results than a foreign force such as the US military going in. Your post cites all the multitude of people and organizations who were in agreement "what" needed to be done namely "regime change" <font color=red>But it was left to George W. Bush as the President of the US to lead this country into "how" that regime change would happen. <font color=black>As President, it was the expectation that he would provide that lead. He failed to provide that lead. On September 12 2001, the US stood united, the entire world fully behind the US and looked at our 43rd President George W. Bush to step up to the plate and lead this world to once and for all eradicate the threat of terrorism. What did he do.

He alienated the US for the world. Even NATO turned its back for the Bush plan. In the arena of the fight against world terrorism, the US is worse off today than it was on September 12, 2001. Or else how do you explain the fear and paranoia of the common American today.

In closing let me share this with you. When I wanted to start a new business, I went to my rich dad for money. He gave me the money, he supported me. I set out to open the business. But I failed to achieve the desired outcome. For my failure, do I blame my father for his support? Do I say that if he had not provided me with the money, I would not be in a position to open the business and hence would not have failed? Your post indicates that.
