I deliberately allow myself to be influenced by what i see in order to try to figure out real gains/losses. I think independents may be swayed watching the coverage on cable. The big test for kerry comes on thursday night with his acceptance speech. It's likely to be a dud compared to clinton and even bush speeches but if he is calm and clear, he may get more of a hold on those independents. Bush will have his chance in august to recoup, i agree. Will he be able to "assume his base" as kerry has and move to more moderate positions on lets say stem cell research? That could be huge and the only change he has to make is that rather than dispose of unwanted fertilized eggs from infertile couples--those eggs could be used for stem cell. It's the Orin Hatch position and he aint no liberal.
In the arena of fp, he has to appear more moderate re: allies and more supportive of 9/11 commission report(which he is already). Iraq news getting better will be a big help. Mike
