Abu Sock Puppet retracts his resignation. What a shock. If he had any guts, he would leave the country instead of continuing to enable Arafat's drive "into a stone wall".

I heard a discussion on NPR with Khalil Shikaki, Fuad Ajami, and Rami Khouri about the state of Pal politics. Upshot: Arafat will survive, he is the master of chaos, but power bleeds away from him after each crisis.

IMO, the Pals could free themselves if only they could take the first essential step, which they have the power to do since it is purely mental: They could stop supporting Arafat and want him to go. Not just 'reform', not replace the most corrupt cronies. It's perfectly obvious that they state of chaotic gangsterism that Pal politics is in was stage-managed by Arafat; why can't they tell him to go? Yet they cling to him. They are in the 'monkey trap'.
