Sounds like the arguments against John F Kennedy.

They absolutely are.

But there is more.

Before becoming Senator, JFK was a Congressman. As part of his family background, he was steeped in history and politics. He wrote a book that won a Pulitzer Prize. What has Edwards done except practice law?

JFK's legacy, had he lived, may very well have been a very checkered one. There is no way to say, of course, but the makings of a disaster were in place.

It was a different time, too, not one I'd consider analogous. The threats now are fluid and substantially more sinister. I'm not sure Edwards has the experience to deal with them. In Kennedy's time, the threats were known and so massive [the USSR's nukes] that they could be dealt with more or less rationally. I would like to see Edwards try to give Osama a Hot Line call.

I don't have any idea what Edwards might do in the foreign policy and defense arenas as a President but I seriously doubt that he had thought much about these issues until his ambition propelled him to run for President.
