Velocity absolutely has a lot to do with it....it's physics 101, energy imparted by a projectile= mass x (velocity)squared (provided the projectile stops in the "target" and doesn't pass through). So a bullet that's 1/2 the weight of another but traveling twice as fast carries twice as much energy (although the same momentum). "Stopping power" isn't exactly the same thing, it's more a blend of momentum and energy which is why the larger calibers are still important for close-in work. I'm a simple minded dolt, though, 9mm or .357 Magnum works just fine for me (and they're easier to handle, if you miss the target, all the stopping power in the world won't help you). Unless yer hunting rhinos or NFL defensive ends (or need compensation for a too-tiny phallus) who needs a hand cannon?<G>
