I think the important thing about Kerry's post-Vietnam activities are:

(1) he came to realize the war could not be won;
(2) he came to realize it was not a just war; and
(3) he did everything he could to end the war and bring our soldiers home with all their appendages still attached.

That is why I think he is the right man for the time. The Iraq War cannot be won; the Iraq War is not a just war; and somebody needs to stop the meaningless deaths of our soldiers.

Kerry is not campaigning as somebody who will pull the plug and stop the bleeding ... I guess that is necessary to get elected.

But I doubt that he has changed so much during the past thirty-odd years that he has forgotten the words he once spoke in the US Congress:

"How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?"
