I think the idea is repugnant, (i.e. moral objection to letting gay people get married? ) but I don't feel moved to do anything about it. I disagree with the President that a constitutional amendment is needed to prevent same sex marriage, merely because I think it should be dealt with elsewhere. I do object when same sex couples start signing up for discounts on their health insurance and other benefits accorded to married couples, because then I HAVE TO START PAYING! That's where they intrude on my rights. The whole thing, I think, is merely a ploy to shift the cost of their lifestyle to others. They don't need to be married since they can already do everything they need to do to pursue that lifestyle.
I don't agree with abortion either, but when asked to participate in a march I declined. I think people who bomb abortion clinics should be dealt with severely, but no more severely than people who terminate human life for their own convenience. Add that to my list, if you want.
If the world, as you put it, would be allowed to do as they please, as long as they don't intrude on the rights of others it would be an ideal situation. Far removed from reality, but ideal. Too bad it will never happen.
OK, total freedom is incompatible with a moral society. But a moral society IS compatible with great freedom and a moral society (outlined in the Ten Commandments with the addition of forgiveness) is predominantly free.
That freedom stops when people start intruding on the rights of others. Which is why we need things like the Second Amendment. Michael Moore is nothing but a big stupid fat white man, but he can say anything he wants as long as he doesn't interfere with our right of self-defense, or our other natural rights. |
