He forgot to mention that the British economic system is still deeply ingrained in the mindset and ethos of the society. And that's where 90 percent of the population is meant to serve the 10% - lords, nobles, landed gentries, plus the merchant class. Likewise in Pakistan, where billions of US aids pumped into the country since Kennedy's administration have zilch results and zilch impact except the rise of merchant class.
There are two ladies prime ministers, Pakistan's Bhutto and India's Ghandi, and their impact on women in society has been limited to those women in upper class. The lower class neglected. Don't bother about middle class, as there are only upper and lower classes.
It will very difficult to make rapid progress until such obstacles are removed. Women? - they are half of the society in numbers, half of the brain power, and half of the energy. Socioeconomic structure? - caste system still exists in India, doesn't it? - So take out another 25% to 30% of the doomed member of the society?
Can Indian society change or transform? Unlikely, without a cultural revolution. Har, har, har, har!! |
