It would appear that Blair's statements, as spoken, are untrue.

But the true number of people dead will be hard to reconcile as time drifts on..

I think it's fair to say that it was well over 100,000 over at least the last 10 years..

I was talking to one shiite gal about how long I would be staying over here.. I told her probably a year or so, or until her people tell us to leave.

She said "We'll never tell you to leave... You are all that is protecting us from the Ba'athists".. She went on to explain that I can't imagine the kinds of terror that the Iraqi people were put through by Saddam and his cronies.

I was heartened by that.. But obviously she's afraid not only for current life (few of her friends know she works on an American base), but also for her future.

The bloodletting that will be unleashed should the US depart the region will be tremendous.. And IT WILL launch a new regional way between Iran and Iraq, this time between Sunnis and Shiites.
