I strongly believe that Islamic terrorists are motivated by one of the most basic, fundamental human drives, the drive to turn your environment into one in which you and your family can prosper.

I just started studying the American Revolution in South Carolina, and was startled to realize that the two sides of Americans, loyalists and revolutionaries, committed horrendous acts against each other that shocked the British.

I would also direct attention to Haiti, formerly Sainte Domingue. After the French Revolution, the blacks expected to be freed, and when they were not, they took matters into their own hands. Whites, of course, saw them as terrorists, and they were, in large part, committing horrific crimes. Study Toussaint Louvertour, and you will understand bin Laden. Study Simon Bolivar.

I wish I knew the proper term for them that is analogous to patriot, because that is what they believe themselves to be.
