Jim, the statements you have made are true...to a certain degree.
BUT even you don't know what is on Big Blue's mind or on anybody elses for that matter. Someone (or something) could be lurking at this very moment and jump on NOVL first thing Monday morning or perhaps the monday after or the Monday after that etc.....

Did you have any idea that Buffet was going to make heavy investments in Gillete, Coke, AXP, Wells Fargo. Did you know MO was going o buy out Kraft or that BT was eyeing MCI ? Exactly !! That is what makes this market ever more exciting...the surprises that suddenly appear and without much reasoning. No need to logically tell us why NOVL is not a good candidate. To you and me, $5 billion is beyond dreams but to companies like IBM, $5 billion is a drop in the bucket.
Large companies must continue to expand and what better to buy than a company with great products(at least some), large market presence,
technical staff...and all for a sale price of $5 billion ?

NOVL is still considered by the majority as a main player in the software industry. It is a household name among corporations.

You may be yet surprised as I am sure you were when MCI, NCR, Kraft etc, etc, etc.... were bought out. Stay tuned but don't be short NOVL.
It's too late to go short.
