"End the war in Iraq asap." Nice idea. Can't be done. For good or ill, we are stuck with Afghanistan and Iraq. True, we could pull out our troops from both and pretend that nothing ever happened. But we have an ethical obligation to put thing right in both places, and that will take money, time and lives. Yeah, it sucks for the military. Yeah, it sucks for the taxpayers. And yeah, it sucks for the Joe Iraqis and Afghanis. But the trigger has been pulled and the situation is what it is. We didn't go into either action with sufficient resources. We could have done a lot of good in both places, but we tried to do it on the cheap. To cut and run would make the sacrifices that our troops have made meaningless. And that would be criminal. We cannot make the same mistakes we made in Vietnam. Not only is it stupid, it is self-destructive.
