Speaking of Theresa Heinz Kerry, and I realize this is trivial, but the Family Circle magazine has had prospective first ladies give them cookie recipes since 1992. The readers vote for their favorite cookies. And the winner has always been married to the man who won the election.

Laura Bush submitted a recipe for oatmeal chocolate chunk cookies. Theresa Heinz Kerry submitted a recipe for pumpkin spice cookies. (Parenthetically, pumpkin spice? Yuck.)

But wait, it gets better (or worse, depending on your point of view.) Theresa Heinz Kerry now says that she hates pumpkin spice cookies, and her staff submitted the recipe, but it's not hers!

Even better (or worse) the recipe ("Yummy Wonders" ?!?!) she did submit did not work, so Family Circle attempted to contact her, and she says she thinks someone on her staff submitted something nasty on purpose.

>>Mrs. Heinz Kerry said: "Somebody at my office gave that recipe out and, in fact, I think somebody really made it on purpose to give a nasty recipe. I never made pumpkin cookies; I don't like pumpkin spice cookies."

Mrs. Heinz Kerry had originally submitted a recipe called Yummy Wonders, but, according to Family Circle, its test kitchen said the recipe did not work. When the magazine called her press office and asked if there had been a mistake, the press office sent the pumpkin cookie recipe without consulting her, said her press secretary, Marla Romash. <<

She's just like her husband! Big talk, flip-flop, and when things go wrong, blame someone else. It's too funny!
