At least one version of the bill to reauthorize the “assault weapon” ban (the one I'm pretty sure Kerry supported) would have made illegal any shotgun that houses 3 shells, any semi-automatic shotgun, any pump action shot gun, and any rifle that used a clip. About all that leaves is Kerry’s weapon of choice. So I think he had his people do some research to make sure the gun he described would be legal. Unfortunately, it wasn’t what 95% of deer hunters would use.
