Part of the problem with the LP is that they are a living oxymoron. A bunch of extreme individualists (many with staunch anti-government views) want to come together as a group and petition the government. No wonder they have such a problem getting together on issues.

I do agree with a lot of Libertarian positions, especially personal responsibility issues. But, they're a bit too idealistic in this day and age. Even the so-called smaller government conservatives in Washington are spending money like drunken sailors these days. Big Business has figured out that one of the most profitable ventures is feeding off the public trough, and their conservative allies in Congress ensure that the trough is kept full at all times. There's no room for anti-government Libertarians in that sort of atmosphere. The anti-government rhetoric is outdated. Big government in one form or another is here to stay. Big business is too reliant on big government for it to be done away with.
