Ted, seems like Robert Novak is making the same prediction I'm making if Kerry loses:

If Kerry loses, it will be worse. His campaign's moderation will be blamed by forces insisting on moving left the next time.
How is this any different from what Bush did? He ran his 2000 campaign as compassionate conservative and as a moderate. He got into office and turned into a radical rightie.
Having said that, I am confident that the left will be stronger than ever even if Kerry loses. As I've said before, Bush and his policies have really united the Dem. party.
For the record, here is what I said (among other things):

After that [if Kerry loses], the DNP will probably undergo a shakeup, reaffirm its liberal ideals, and start setting the stage for Hillary 2008, all in an effort not to repeat the same mistake of nominating someone as nebulous as Kerry.
I don't think the Dems can't really do that because there are center and center left Dems in the party as well as far left.
However, I believe that if Bush loses, the GOP will splinter badly. Right now, I think they are holding it together to win the November election. It appears to me, however, that the GOP is a lot more divided than it was in 2000 and that that division will be evidenced with a Bush loss.
