A story I recently retold to my daughter struck a chord with me.
(I heard it recently. I don't remember the source. What follows is paraphrase with a dash of outright amnesia...)

A young girl was facing a challenge that she knew about in advance, but as the day drew near, she was overcome by fear.
On that morning, she confided in her grandmother that she was scared, and did not know if she could face this commitment.
"Grandma, do you get scared"?
"Certainly, my love."
But I've never SEEN you scared."
"Trust me, little one. I am scared at least twice a week.

You have two dogs who live in your stomach - Fear, and Courage. They are fighting all the time. They will always be with you."

"But Grandma. Which one is stronger?"

"Whichever one you choose to feed, my love."

To quote a veteran wizard from a book I just finished reading to my children: "It is not our abilities that show who we really are. It is our choices."

cheers lrr
