<<I'm interested if anyone is already doing this. If so, what size portfolio do you consider is required. I would want to at least make (take) $50k a year, and still grow the porfolio after paying myself.>>
MHO is a minimum of $250K. Using the net, SI and other tools, an ACTIVE investor (as opposed to passive or lesser informed) should be able to do at least 25-30% year in and year out (comments anyone?). At this level, $50K/yr is 20%, leaving 5-10% for growth.
<<Sorry to be so off topic (MRVC), but I recall someone referring to MRV as my retirement vehicle.>>
No matter how good a stock should look, you can't meet the above objective with just one stock - you must have a portfolio of good picks.
<<If you didn't notice, this is my first post.>>
Welcome.
<<I recently bought shares at $27. Here's the story. I first heard about MRV in an article about networking companies/investments. In that article, MRV was praised, and hence I decided to find out more. At first, I instantly lost interest when I saw the company had net losses for the prior 12 months. Upon looking further, I saw that the major hit to earning was one qtr in which the company had charges for an aquisition.>>
Good price for recent times. Very astute to see thru the negative PE. |
