There are two Americas. If you can't see them, you're either not looking, or deliberating ignoring them.
There is an America of the rich, who protect each other and their pots o gold. I've seen it in the high tech industry, but it's the same all over. Golden parachutes, sweetheart deals, rewards for incompetence, protecting each other. When one is let go, even if they screw up badly, there is a sweet payout as part of the 'fraternity'. They protect each other, because they know that someday they'll be the one fired.
The other America is the one where people work two, three jobs just to stay afloat. I've been a part of that world, too. People who work their asses off, with no health insurance, no savings, little chance to get out, where everything is up hill and the parachutes are all made of lead.
I understand how Bush gets the vote of the rich. What I don't understand is how he has duped all the rest into this massive government subsidy, whereas the rich don't have to pay their fair share. It is one of the great con jobs of our times.
'Dupe', I believe, is the best word for those who support Bush and the Fraternity of the Rich. |
